Drake has big plans for “God’s Plan.”
According to documents obtained by TMZ, the Scorpion rapper has filed a trademark named after the title of his chart-topping hit and plans to use the name for a TV game show and clothing merchandise. The trademark also encompasses other endeavors including downloadable music, music videos, audio recordings, marketing, and promotion.
It’s unclear if a “God’s Plan” game show is in the works, possibly inspired by the music video. In the viral clip, which has over 760 million views on YouTube, Drake gives away nearly $1 million to strangers.
Some artists file trademarks, but never follow through on their usage. In April, Kanye West filed a wide-ranging Yeezus trademark that includes kitchen appliances, athletics, cosmetics, bedding, games, paper goods, press campaign buttons, clothing, and more.
Meanwhile, Drake continues to grow his brand. He recently signed on to executive produce HBO’s teen drama series “Euphoria” starring Zendaya, and hinted at renewing his deal with Jordan Brand and Nike.
His album Scorpion remains No. 1 for a fifth week on the Billboard 200, while “In My Feelings” tops the Hot 100 for a fourth week.
