Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho explains water bottle incident

Jose Mourinho profusely apologised to Crystal Palace supporters for accidentally kicking a water bottle into the stands during Manchester United's win on Monday night.
Mourinho, who received a one-match touchline ban for punting a water bottle in United's goalless Premier League draw with West Ham last season, swung his boot at a water bottle following an incident in the second-half at Selhurst Park which ended up near spectators in the stands. The United manager reacted with horror at connecting with the bottle so cleanly and put his hands to his head before holding them out to express his regret to the Palace fans.

United recovered from 2-0 down to win 3-2 through goals from Chris Smalling, Romelu Lukaku and a spectacular 91st minute Nemanja Matic strike and sit above Liverpool in the league table again.
Mourinho was asked about the bottle incident - which was recorded by the game's broadcasters but apparently spotted by fourth official Lee Mason - during his flash interview and paid tribute to the Palace supporters nearby.

"Yes, but it was empty," Mourinho told Sky Sports. "One thing with the referee and another thing is the basic frustration of the game with good fun with the people behind.

"Maybe they like me here because I keep saying this stadium and these fans are brilliant."
Last season, a three-man FA commission decided Mourinho had 'aggressively kicked the bottle in a manner that could have endangered people around him regardless of the motivation to do so' after Paul Pogba was booked for simulation against West Ham.     Fourth official Anthony Taylor told referee Jon Moss Mourinho 'aggressively kicked a water bottle… so recklessly and with little consideration of the consequences'. The panel members concluded Mourinho's behaviour was at the 'lower end' of improper conduct.
Mourinho received a one-match touchline ban and £16,000 fine for kicking the inanimate object.
